As staffing and supplies allow, we are offering the Pfizer vaccine to children ages 5-11 years old. In order to schedule a vaccine, please contact our office 208-292-5437 and press the option to speak with a scheduler. Please be aware that we are limited in the number of vaccine doses we receive, and coordinating staffing to provide these vaccines takes time. We will do the best we can to get everyone who desires to be vaccinated taken care of as quickly as possible. You may be placed on a waitlist. We are scheduling those children who are on the waitlist as soon as we have staffing and vaccine doses available. It will be the responsibility of parents to make sure their children receive both doses of the vaccine. The second dose must be no less than 21 days after the first dose.
As supplies allow, Lakeside Pediatrics is currently offering rapid antigen testing for sick children. Please schedule a same day sick visit if your child is ill and you would like him or her to be tested for Covid-19.
Symptoms of Covid-19 infection can range from mild to severe. For a comprehensive list of possible symptoms, please visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html.
For children who have no symptoms of illness but require a Covid-19 test for travel, prior to a procedure, or due to exposure to a Covid positive person, we can send an order for PCR testing to the Kootenai Health Covid-19 testing site. Please call Lakeside Pediatrics and select option 3 to leave a voicemail for a nurse. Be sure to leave all pertinent information: Child’s name and date of birth, the date of last exposure OR the date of travel/procedure, and a parent’s name and phone number. An employee will call you back to confirm receipt of your message. Please do not report to the testing site before someone has returned your call. It takes time for us to process your request.
If you have spoken to someone at Lakeside Pediatrics about sending an order to the testing site for you, you can expect the order to be faxed within 24 hours. Due to high call volume, we cannot guarantee that orders will be processed sooner than that. Requests submitted after 3pm will be handled the next business day.
The Kootenai Health Covid-19 testing site is located at 2207 Ironwood Place. Please visit https://www.kh.org/covid-19/test/ for the most up to date information about the current hours of the test site.
Covid-19 testing is done via a swab up the nose. The Kootenai Health Covid-19 testing site performs nasopharyngeal PCR swabs. The tests currently offered by Lakeside for sick patients are nasal antigen tests.
You will need to provide your email address when you show up at the testing site so that you can get access to the KH lab portal for results. LSP will only call with positive results. If you are unable to access the lab portal, do not call LSP for results until at least 48 hours have passed since the time your child was tested, as it will take at least this long for us to receive faxed results.
If your child has sick symptoms, they need to be quarantined until you have received results of the covid test. The current guidelines from the CDC regarding quarantine and isolation are as follows: If someone tests positive for Covid-19, they will need to remain in isolation for 10 days from the start of symptoms AND will need to be fever free without the aid of fever reducing medication for 24 hours AND other symptoms have to have improved. If someone tests positive for Covid-19 and is asymptomatic, they will need to remain in isolation for 10 days from the date of testing.
For further questions, please refer to the CDC website or contact the Panhandle Covid-19 hotline (877-415-5225). We are experiencing abnormally high call volume at this time and may not be able to respond to messages left for us on the nurse line as quickly as we would like to. However, your calls are valuable to us and we will do our best to respond as quickly as we are able.
Currently, the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine is approved for children ages 12 and up. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that all eligible children receive the Covid-19 vaccine. Please feel free to make an appointment, with your provider, if you would like to discuss this further.
This document, Vax FAQ, answers frequently asked questions regarding the Covid-19 vaccine. If you have further questions or concerns, you may leave a message on the nurse triage line. We will respond to your message as quickly as we are able. Be aware that we are experiencing abnormally high call volume.
As supplies allow, Lakeside is currently offering the Covid-19 vaccine to children 12 and older. The vaccine is given at dedicated Covid-19 vaccine clinics. Contact the office to request an appointment for your child.
